Conviction Consequences

Possible consequences of a drug conviction other than a criminal record, fines, and jail time (violations, misdemeanors, and felonies)
- Loss of Driver’s license for six (6) months for any drug conviction including a marijuana violation
- Loss of job
- Loss of professional license or professional discipline hearings
- Eviction from private or public housing
- Expulsion/Suspension from public or private schooling
- Loss of parental rights and adoption/foster rights including seizure of minor children from home and/or loss of visitation rights
- Loss of federal and state student aid for one year, two years, or even permanently depending on the offense
- Loss of $1000 Hope Scholarship Tax Credit during year of conviction
- Loss of federal assistance program benefits (a lifetime loss of food stamps and other benefits for a felony conviction in some states)
- Loss of federal and state grants and contracts
